Texas Star Great Debate Six rising sophomores from Cotulla High School proudly represented the Class of 2028 at the National Hispanic Institute (NHI) Texas Star Great Debate held June 10–15, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. This prestigious leadership conference brought together hundreds of students from across Texas to build confidence, refine communication skills, and cultivate future community leaders.
During the week-long program, the students participated in a series of activities focused on public speaking, critical thinking, and civic engagement. They were introduced to the core values of NHI, including leadership through service, the power of voice, and the importance of contributing to the community. NHI participants were divided into teams and took part in four categories of debate: Cross-Examination, Extemporaneous Speaking, Oratory, and Mock Trial. Throughout the week, they worked with coaches and college-age mentors to prepare arguments, practice speaking techniques, and learn how to deliver compelling presentations. In addition to competition rounds, the students attended leadership workshops, participated in team-building activities, and connected with peers from other schools. The experience not only enhanced their academic and communication skills but also instilled a greater sense of pride in their cultural heritage and potential as future leaders.
Cotulla High School is proud to celebrate their achievements and is excited to see these students continue to grow as ambassadors of leadership and positive change in their school and community.
