Dear Cotulla ISD Family,
In light of the tragedy that occurred yesterday at Robb Elementary School, I would like to reassure the community that Cotulla ISD is taking precautions to ensure that our campuses remain a safe place for our children and staff.
Campus Principals and I met with Sheriff Anthony Zertuche and Captain Gonzales first thing this morning to discuss additional protocols that can be implemented immediately.
Without going into great detail, (in order to protect the integrity of said protocols), there will be increased law enforcement presence in the next few days at all campuses. Please explain to your children that if they see law enforcement at their campus, they are there to keep them safe.
With graduation approaching on Friday, we would like to inform everyone that Law enforcement will be checking ALL bags upon entering the graduation ceremonies. For this reason, Cotulla ISD strongly encourages anyone attending graduation to bring a clear bag if possible.
Parents, Cotulla ISD takes any and all concerns and threats directed at our schools, staff and children very seriously and will contact our School Resource Office immediately to investigate. Anyone making any type of threat, whether it’s claimed to be a joke or not, will not only face disciplinary action from the school, the Sheriff’s Department will be notified for possible criminal charges.
I ask you to join me in praying for comfort and healing for the community of Uvalde CISD and the families affected by this tragedy. May you and your children have a safe summer break.
Sincerely,
Ruben V. Cervantes,
Superintendent of Schools
